Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) meets with Seventh U.S. Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, on Capitol Hill on September 29, 2020 in Washington, DC.

Florida Sen. Rick Scott said that Republicans “stand with” Herschel Walker after the Daily Beast reported that the GOP Georgia Senate candidate urged a woman he was dating to get an abortion and then reportedly reimbursed her for the procedure.

“When the Democrats are losing, as they are right now, they lie and cheat and smear their opponents,” Scott said in a statement released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee on Tuesday. “That’s what’s happening right now. They know they are on the verge of losing the Senate, and they know Herschel Walker is winning, so they have cranked up the smear machine.”

“This is just like the smears they attempted against Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas, and it will not work,” Scott continued. “Herschel has denied these allegations and the NRSC and Republicans stand with him, and Georgians will stand with him too.”

Walker has denied the Daily Beast’s report, calling it a “defamatory lie” in a statement on Twitter.

He said the Daily Beast report was a “repugnant hatchet job from a democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started.”

Walker’s son unleashed on his father on Twitter Monday and Tuesday after the report about Walker was published.
