Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Commanders, has made efforts to convince his fellow NFL owners of his innocence as he is currently under investigation by the league.
In a lengthy letter to every owner in the league, Snyder addressed an ESPN article claiming he hired private investigators to dig up dirt on other owners in the league, as well as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
“That is clearly inaccurate and intended to undermine the trust and goodwill between owners, which I take very seriously. I have never hired a private investigator to investigate an owner or the commissioner. I have never instructed or authorized my attorneys to hire a private investigator on my behalf for such a purpose. And I would never do that.
He also said ESPN “ignored our efforts to correct the many falsehoods in their article before it was published.”

Snyder’s status has been the subject of much debate for years amid several scandals and investigations into workplace behavior in Washington. The league has been investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and financial impropriety, an investigation conducted by attorney Mary Jo White is still ongoing.
Removing Snyder would be unprecedented and would require 24 votes from the other owners. However, some owners seem to be open to the idea — after comments made Tuesday by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.
“You know, it’s a difficult situation. I believe there is merit in removing him as owner of the Redskins (sic). I think it’s something we need to review, we need to look at all the evidence and be thorough going forward, but I think it’s something that needs to be seriously considered,” Irsay said.

A spokesman for the commanders responded to Irsay’s comments, denouncing his words.
“It is highly inappropriate, but not surprising, that Mr Irsay has chosen to make statements publicly based on falsehoods in the media,” the statement read.
“It is unfortunate that Mr Irsay decided today to make his statement public, while an investigation is underway, and the team has not had an opportunity to formally respond to allegations. The commanders have made remarkable progress over the past two years.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also responded to Irsay’s comments, saying, “Speculation without facts isn’t very positive.” He also said the league will share the final report publicly once it is completed.
White has not informed the league of a timeline to file a report, though she is expected to near the end of the investigation, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity as the investigation remains open.
Snyder has owned the team since 1999 – when they were known as the Washington Redskins. The team pledged to change its name in 2020 and played as the Washington Football Team for two seasons before playing as the Commanders for the first time this season.
