A line-marking machine that was charged overnight sparked a massive fire that caused $500,000 in damage to one of Sydney’s most prestigious private schools.
The massive fire at St Ignatius’ College Riverview, on the north coast, broke out inside a 60m by 20m work storage shed at around 6pm. 3.45 Thursday.
Sixteen fire engines were called to the scene with shocking footage showing the shed fully engulfed in flames.

The massive fire at St Ignatius’ College Riverview, on the north coast, broke out inside a 60m by 20m work storage shed at around 6pm. 03.45 Thursday.
Paint cans, thinner, petrol and a maintenance vehicle were all burnt as the fire tore through the roof of the maintenance shed.
Pictures from the scene also show the line marker completely charred, as well as the entrance and inside of the shed.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire from several sides and brought it under control by 5.30am.
No one was injured during the incident and no evacuations were required.
The school, whose past pupils include former prime minister Tony Abbott and 2GB radio host Ben Fordham, resumed classes as normal on Thursday, with HSC students sitting their maths exams.
Fire and Rescue NSW investigators determined the line marker had started the inferno.
FRNSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said the St Ignatius school bonfire is a reminder that calling 000 in a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
