From the creators of 2018 I can only imagine coming jesus revolution, a story about breaking through prejudice and opening hearts, minds and doors in a time of national and generational divide. Lionsgate has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming film, based on true events leading up to its wide release, in theaters only on Friday, February 24, 2023.
The story of jesus revolution follows a young man named Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) while trying to find meaning in his life in 1970. He meets two men he hopes can help him: Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie street preacher and Reverend Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), a man with a bad opinion of hippies who tries to find a way to grow his failing church. Despite their differences, the two preachers come together with a plan to rejuvenate Chuck’s church by bringing hippies to preach, which comes as culture shock to many of the more conservative churchgoers. As time goes by, the two sides begin to come together, leading to a new movement described as a “revival of radical and renewed love.” This movement was dubbed a “Jesus Revolution” by TIME Magazine in 1971.
The new trailer shows how Church and Lonnie come together and come up with plans to bring hippies to his church. We see many of the regulars who attend the languishing church express concern about the new arrivals, although Chuck makes it very clear that the door he opened for them is also open to anyone who wants to leave. He says his church is only a place for those who may feel misunderstood or judged, with the 2-minute, 5-second trailer ending with a voiceover from Chuck, where he says, “This is your home, and I wants you to tell all your friends about it.”
In addition to Roumie, Grammer and Courtney, the cast of jesus revolution also contains Kimberly Williams Paisley and Anna Grace Barlow, among other things. The movie is directed by Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle. Erwin is also the writer of the film and wrote the screenplay together with him Jon Gunn.
jesus revolution will premiere in theaters on February 24, 2023. The film will also have a special preview event on Wednesday, February 22. You can check out the new trailer and poster for the upcoming movie and read the official synopsis below.
