Business leaders spoke of the “Brisbane buzz” as they shook off the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrated successful ventures at the 2022 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards at City Hall.
Anthony Ryan, chief executive of the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, told more than 640 guests that operations in Brisbane had diversified over the past decade to include complex IT software development and health professionals.

“There’s a hype around Brisbane right now, a real buzz,” Ryan said after congratulating companies on their flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on supply chains and workforces.
“We thank you for taking risks and developing opportunities in what I believe to be the largest city in Australia and the world,” he said.

Elena Gosse OAM, chief executive of water disinfection company AIS Water, was named Business Person of the Year for exporting pool cleaning technology to 55 countries from Brisbane.
The winner of the Lord Mayor’s 2022 Platinum Award was the maker of trade management software simPRO, which employs 480 people in six offices and helps 200,000 customers with its cloud-based software that puts executives and field workers in direct contact.
The businessmen behind the already award-winning redevelopment of Brisbane’s Princess Theater – Steve Wilson, brothers Steve and Dave Sleswick and Simon Wade – received the Investment in Brisbane Award for a significant contribution to the city’s music scene.
dr. James Fielding, chief executive of audio technology company Audeara, was named Young Business Person of the Year and won the Outstanding Small Business Award for developing technically tailored headphones for people with hearing impairments.
