Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched 36 satellites early Sunday using the heaviest rocket LVM3, officials said.
The satellites were launched at 12:07 a.m. local time from Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) in Sriharikota, off the coast of the Bay of Bengal in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
“LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1 mission has been successfully completed. All 36 satellites have been placed in their intended orbits,” ISRO said in a brief statement.
According to ISRO, the LVM3-M2 mission is a special commercial mission for a foreign customer OneWeb, through New Space India Limited (NSIL).
“It is the first multi-satellite mission with 36 OneWeb satellites to low Earth orbit (LEO) as the heaviest payload of 5,796 kg LVM3 to date,” ISRO said.
