About 1,900 passengers on the Coral Princess cruise ship are at the center of a Covid scare after 100 infected passengers and crew were placed in isolation for five days.
The vessel was the first luxury vessel to enter Western Australian waters in over two years due to the pandemic when it docked in Broome Monday morning.
But about 100 infected passengers and crew are unable to depart and must remain in isolation for the next five days after the virus was discovered circulating on the ship.

The Coral Princess had departed Sydney for WA on Oct. 11 after the state government announced it would allow large cruise ships to dock again off the coast of the state.
A spokesman for WA Health said in a statement that cruise ship operators must adhere to national East Coast and Western Australian cruise protocols, and have their own COVID-19 plans in place.
“In accordance with protocols, cruise operators in WA waters are required to report COVID-19 cases to WA Health 12 to 24 hours prior to arrival at a WA port,” they said.
“With regard to the Coral Princess, WA Health has been notified of passengers and crew testing positive for COVID-19, and this evolving situation is being managed by the vessel operator under its COVID-19 plan.
“According to protocols, those on board ships carrying Covid must isolate for five days.”
WA Health has not confirmed the number of cases on board the ship.
A spokesperson for Princess Cruises told the Broome Advertiser that the outbreak on the ship was under control.
“An increase in guest cases is being managed effectively in accordance with protocols, which exceed standards applicable to mainland locations,” they said.
“The East Coast and Western Australia cruise protocols, developed by state authorities in conjunction with the cruise industry, have laid a strong foundation to manage cases of COVID-19 on board.”
The ship departed Sydney on October 11 and docked at Broome in northwest Western Australia on Monday morning

The Coral Princess can carry up to 2390 passengers and 900 crew members.
According to the itinerary, the ship was to depart Broome at 6pm and continue sailing along the WA coastline, with docks at Geraldton, Fremantle, Busselton and Albany.
It would return to Sydney next month.
