Dramatic aerial photos have captured a fishing vessel slowly sinking beneath the waves after running aground near a notoriously dangerous part of the North Sea – triggering a heroic early morning rescue by the Coast Guard.
Ocean Maid BA55 capsized Monday morning off the Scottish coast of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
Four crew members on board were able to get to safety with the help of a life raft and lifeboat and narrowly escaped from the wake.
Fraserburgh Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) responded to the emergency call at 5:56 a.m. Monday and was able to get the crew to safety.
The ship had only recently begun its journey when it ran into trouble and ran aground on an ‘infamous black spot’ of Cairnbulg Beacon, which has reportedly claimed numerous other ships in previous years.

The Ocean Maid is now just meters away from the Sovereign BF380, which was shipwrecked in 2005 after crashing into the rocks of Cairnbulg.
Aerial footage from Ocean Maid shows the empty ship capsized next to a buoy, giving it an eerie appearance as if it were falling into a void in the ocean.
RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat has since detailed how the rescue was completed.
In a Facebook post they wrote: ‘Fraserburgh RNLI was requested to launch this morning by HM Coastguard and responded at 5:56 am to a fishing boat stranded next to Cairnbulg Beacon.
“The four-man crew of the boat went to a life raft and were then picked up by the lifeboat that brought them ashore.
“The boat ran aground in an infamous black spot where many ships have been wrecked over the years and just yards from where another boat, the Sovereign, ran aground in 2005.”
