Mark Waugh has called for Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins to be dropped from the squad for Friday night’s T20 World Cup blockbuster against England, just days after he was criticized for hypocritical ‘ethical objections’ from main sponsor Alinta Energy.
After an embarrassing 89-run loss to New Zealand, the Aussies kept their campaign afloat with a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Perth Stadium on Tuesday night.
A heroic effort by Marcus Stoinis, who made 59 of 18 balls, helped Australia reach the goal of 158 runs, but the team’s less-than-impressive performance on the ball has Mark Waugh worried.

The former coach believes Cummins is the most obvious problem in the team and should be sacked after his recent performance on the ball, saying Australia “are so far off the pace it’s not funny”.
“There are players individually who just aren’t doing well,” Waugh told RSN Breakfast on Wednesday.
‘Pat Cummins with the ball, there’s a big question mark on him going into the next game. Aaron Finch’s entrances were torturous. It was really. I don’t think he can open the innings in the next game. If he’s going to play, he should hit somewhere in the order.
‘Mitch Marsh seems very frantic at the moment. There are many individual players who seem to have lost the plot.
‘It just doesn’t feel right. They are not a happy camp and seem to lack confidence. They are so nervous. I don’t know what the answer is.
“I think they need to make some changes for the next game. I’d bring in Cameron Green and I’d bring him in for Pat Cummins and let Cam Green lead the batting.
‘That’s a change I would definitely make. I know it leaves your bowling game a little short, but I think Cameron Green can bowl four overs as well as any of the other players at the moment,” Waugh said.
