A Briton has been hit and killed by a young motorist after leaving a high street in Queensland, Australia.
The 57-year-old man was crossing the road in the town of Biggera Waters outside Harbor Town shopping center when he was hit by a 19-year-old driver.
The teenager tried desperately to save him, according to police, but emergency services pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police said he was hit at about 5:15 p.m. local time (9:15 a.m. BST) today.
The vehicle was a white 2012 Holden Colorado double cab which, according to police, was traveling south of town after the incident.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Biggera Waters, stopped and immediately provided assistance to the man for emergency services, but the pedestrian died at the scene.
“The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate and are looking for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision or CCTV of the crash or the moments preceding it to come forward.”
