Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves were quick to praise Harry Maguire on his return to Manchester United after injury.
The England defender suffered a hamstring injury sustained while on duty in England, but came off the bench to show a brief glimpse of solidity and security at the back for United.
The club’s captain replaced Lisandro Martinez – who was joined by Victor Lindelof – at half-time and received strong support from the Old Trafford faithful, who Scholes says are ‘realizing’ the pressure the defender has been under.

“He’s had a hard time and these fans will be behind him,” said the former United midfielder. “They realize how difficult the past year to 18 months has been for him.
“We want him to go back to the player he is, the player he can be. That was not a test tonight, there will be bigger tests when he plays West Ham next week.
“It’s going to be a real test of his form, so fingers crossed he goes back to the Harry Maguire we all know.”

The 29-year-old’s fall out of form has been nothing short of startling, going from arguably England’s most important centre-back, to a player many believe should be nowhere near a seat on the plane to Qatar.

But England boss Gareth Southgate has kept his faith in the player, consistently choosing him in his international squads, much to the chagrin of many.
However, a run in the United side before the World Cup could provide the former Leicester and Hull man with the platform he needs to make a claim in a spot in a defense far from set in stone.
And Raphael Varane’s absence due to a leg injury he sustained at Chelsea last week can only help him in that endeavor.
And Owen Hargreaves was quick to express his hopes that Maguire can get back into the international fold in time for the tournament – which kicks off in Qatar on November 20.
“Hopefully (he can go back to England),” Hargreaves claimed. “These fans were brilliant. I think he will be very happy and would like to be fit for England.”
