Ex-Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has closed his Irish sports bar in Spain less than a year after the company launched.
The former Red Devil set up Sharpey’s sports bar in December last year after emigrating to Javea for what he hoped would be the ‘perfect opportunity’ for his family.
But Sharpe’s fortunes seemed to have turned after the bar posted a message on their social media account announcing that they had officially closed the business.

The 51-year-old claims he is looking forward to launching ‘exciting business ventures’
Following the closure of ‘Sharpey’s’, the 51-year-old confirmed he is looking forward to embarking on a string of ‘exciting business ventures’.
According to the sun, he said, “It just didn’t work as a family. It’s a great company, but since the summer I’ve worked on many exciting business ventures.
“I have a lot of exciting projects to be announced this month, but unfortunately I can’t talk about them yet.”
There are suggestions that ‘rising rents’ have put a premature end to the Irish sports bar – with the property in Javea now listed for rent at £2,845 (€3,300) per month.
In an advertisement for the company, potential buyers were told that it is ‘a huge opportunity to take over the lease for the famous original Irish Bar, also known as ‘Sharpey’s’.
“With the World Cup approaching, this is a great opportunity to take over this turnkey business with a fully working kitchen and over 39,000 hits on Google per month.”

Sharpe, along with his wife Lucy and two friends Aiden Roache and Juan Pintor, opened the business last year. The group decided to leave the UK due to a possible lockdown looming at the time.
He played 193 games for United between 1988 and 1996 – where he won three Premier League titles – and won eight caps for England between 1991 and 1993.
In addition to his league titles, Sharpe also won two FA Cups, a League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup under Sir Alex Ferguson.
After ending his football career in 2004, the ex-winger has since started participating in professional golf tournaments.
He has also made a number of TV appearances such as Dancing on the Ice, Celebrity Wrestling and Celebrity Love Island.
