At least two Russian conscripts have been killed and 11 injured after a truck ran over them at a top-secret training base.
Israpil Abkherdilayev, 22, a contract soldier, rammed a KamAZ military transport vehicle into the conscripts around 7 p.m. on Thursday at a training ground near the town of Mirny, in northwestern Russia.
One soldier died at the scene, a second later died in hospital, where 11 others are now recovering with varying degrees of injuries.

The training area is off limits to anyone without a pass and is located near the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, which is home to Russian nuclear weapons and space missiles.
Just two days ago, a Yars intercontinental ballistic missile – capable of carrying a nuclear bomb – was launched from Plesetsk during training exercises supervised by Putin.
It is also used to launch satellite-carrying space rockets, and last November it was used to test the Russian Nudol rocket that killed the satellite.
An investigation has been launched and the Russian military has not provided any further information about what happened or why.
According to media outlet ASTRA, Abkherdilayev is said to have ‘got behind the wheel of a KAMAZ truck and ran into a column of conscripts’.
‘One conscript was killed instantly, the other died in hospital.
“Eleven people have been taken to a military hospital in the town of Mirny.”
The accident happened at a training ground in the northwestern Russian city of Mirny, which is closed to people without a pass and located near the Plesetsk nuclear base.
Sources from another news channel 29.RU confirmed that two people had died and the rest had been hospitalized with minor injuries.
The incident took place at a training area of Military Unit 13973, located in a closed area.
“Military detectives are already working on the case,” BAZA reports.
Plesetsk is regularly used for important launches.
Putin Thursday oversaw a YARS launch in a nuclear exercise designed to respond to a Western attack on Russia.
Russian state television said Putin’s exercises targeted the UK and US.
On October 15, an Angara-1.2 spacecraft launcher was launched from the cosmodrome.
Five days earlier, a Soyuz 2.1b rocket was launched.
Initially, there was a news outage about the incident.
Military sources declined requests from local journalists for comment on the incident.
Mirny is a closed city in the west of the Arkhangelsk region and serves the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.
