Conor Benn wants to blame chicken eggs for the failure of two drug tests ahead of his canceled fight with Chris Eubank Jr, according to reports.
Benn was scheduled to face Eubank Jr in a grudge match earlier this month, but the match was called off 48 hours before the event was scheduled to take place after the former tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene.
The 26-year-old has since revealed that he also failed a test for the same substance earlier in his training camp, and is now working on a defense as he insists he is innocent.
As reported by The timesBenn’s legal team is investigating the food he ate in the run-up to the fight, and the Briton claimed he ate ‘between 30 and 34 eggs a week’.
Benn’s team can now point to a 2020 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) study that examined whether “poultry and eggs are a source of minute amounts of clomiphene in doping control samples.”
Benn has maintained that trace amounts of clomiphene in his system were “so low that there was no performance benefit.”
However, he may have issues proving chicken eggs caused his positive drug tests, as the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Department has said clomiphene is not approved for use in animals in the UK.

Determined to prove his innocence, Benn has revealed that he has spent over £100,000 to get the best scientists on the case.
He has called on the public to be patient, because he believes he will be able to prove in time that he was the victim of infection.
“I just want people to wait, step back and wait for the science, wait for the evidence, wait for the actual proof of what this is. All I can think of is contamination,” he added.

“Science will prove that. I have the best scientists for this. I spend a lot of money here to prove my innocence.’
In addition to asking for time to find out how he tested positive, Benn has also denied being careless about what he put into his body.
“I am so diligent with what I take. I check everything on the WADA system. I wouldn’t even buy a protein shake without a prescription,” he said.
“All I have is Informed Sport (supplements recommended by governing bodies). I’ll have them all checked now. We have strong theories about what happened.’
