In rural northwest Tasmania, a teenage boy has died and a girl has been left seriously injured after a quad bike crashed into a creek.
Police confirmed on Sunday that 16-year-old male driver Tyler Evans had died after Saturday afternoon’s crash in Oldina.
The boy’s passenger, 16-year-old Kirby-Rose Denby, believed to be his girlfriend, was taken to hospital with critical injuries, but her condition was later reported to be stable.

The quad was unable to take the turn properly before hitting a bridge and descending an embankment into a creek, where the two teens were found
Detective Inspector Kim Steven said the crash occurred on a dirt road and it appeared the quad was unable to take the bend properly before hitting a bridge and descending an embankment into a creek, where the two teens were found.
He said the investigation was still early and police gave the boy’s family time to deal with their loss.
“I can only imagine what the family is going through right now, and I don’t want to have this discussion with any other family if we can do something about it,” he said.
Det Insp Steven added that police were still waiting to speak to witnesses, but it appeared that both 16-year-olds were wearing helmets.
Ms Denby was in stable condition at North West Regional Hospital in Burnie on Sunday.

The incident marks the 48th road death in the state for the year, 20 more than at the same point in 2021.
Det Insp Steven said parents should lead by example for their children by modeling safe driving, adding that quad bikes and motorcycles carry additional risks.
“Don’t think it won’t happen to you, it won’t happen to your family—it can,” he said.
The police are preparing a report for the coroner.
