A tradie and father of a little girl is electrocuted in a bizarre work accident just months before his wedding day.

Electrician David Outhwaite, 36, was killed Friday afternoon while working on a utility pole in Nirimba, 90km south of Perth.

His shocked fiancée, Jodi Dunlop, described the love of her life, who had recently started his own business, as “sun in human form.”

Ms Dunlop said she was “broken” by his death and that Mr Outhwaite “made the world and everyone around him a better place”, especially his 16-month-old daughter.

One of his friends, and a fellow electrician, Owen McLarty learned that an electrician had died in the area and started calling friends.

Mr Outhwaite did not answer his phone, leaving Mr McLarty with a ‘horrible feeling’ that he was the person in the accident.

“I just feel sad and a bit of an empty sick feeling in your guts I guess,” he said Nine news

“He was very vocal around the football club and… he ended up captaining a few games of the season, from that point of view he is a respected leader – and just a real person.”

Western Australia’s energy security watchdog said the facility still appeared to be electrified when Mr Outhwaite started operating, which it shouldn’t have.

The investigation continues and aims to prevent a similar tragedy in the future.

“It’s a dangerous job and you have to take care of yourself, make sure you come home to your loved ones,” said Mr McLarty, who is also a football coach.
