An Australian university student has demanded a “public apology” for a violent, sexually explicit assignment question that she says directly mocked her.
Freya Leach, 19, a sophomore at the University of Sydney, claimed that a character also called Freya in her law assignment is meant to “depict” her.
The character kills a man, then has sex without revealing her HIV-positive status, and ends up being killed herself.
Students were asked to determine criminal liability from three case studies in the question, including Freya, who hits a “Chardonnay socialist” in a hit-and-run crime and then has unprotected sex with her boyfriend while she is HIV-positive.

The students were given the assignment last Friday to take home 2000 words and have to finish this next Sunday.
Ms Leach accused the university of mocking her political views as she is known for being conservative at the University of Sydney.
The problem question uses my name and characterizes me as a right-wing person killing a left-wing person. It then tells a sex scene in detail and says I’m HIV positive,” Ms Leach said in her complaint to the university.
“Everyone knows I’m involved with the conservative club and the young liberals, it’s obvious (it’s about me) given that my political views are well known to my cohort and teachers,” she said. The Daily Telegraph.

Freya’s friend Daniel had fought Adam in a different scenario, describing him as an “awakened prick” for asking Daniel to recycle a document.
In another scenario, Freya and Daniel are having “penis-vaginal sex” and although she knows “she is HIV positive…she does not tell Daniel, who is not wearing a condom.”
Freya is then pushed out of a window to her death by Daniel’s drunken fiancée.
Ms. Leach claimed that 20 fellow students had texted her that they believed Freya was based on her in the assignment.
She filed a complaint with the Dean of Sydney Law School, Professor Simon Bronitt, alleging “reputational damage” and asking for a “public apology”.
She wants the apology emailed to “my entire legal cohort” and asks for “a five-day reprieve” as compensation.
Ms Leach claimed she was targeted after clashes with “socialist” students who had called her “a parasite” in a “zoom bombing”.
She argued in her complaint that it was unusual for an assignment question to use “unusual” names like hers.
She also claimed that memes were circulating among students portraying her as an HIV carrier as a result of the assessment.
In response, a spokesperson for the University of Sydney said the use of the name ‘Freya’ was ‘complete’ coincidence. It claimed the same name had been used in exams and class questions in previous years
Since the question was asked four days ago, Ms. Leach had felt “unsafe.”
