BUNNELL, FL – An elderly Ocala man is out on bond from the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for intentionally striking a traffic control worker with his Porsche after they got into an argument over where he could go with his vehicle.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) took 76-year-old Donald Allen Steimle into custody just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday (November 3, 2022) at a home on San Marco Court in Palm Coast, around 90 minutes after the incident happened in the area of Camino Del Mar Parkway and Granada Drive in Palm Coast.
“Although no one enjoys waiting in road construction traffic, following the directions of traffic safety workers is necessary to ensure everyone’s safety,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Thankfully, the injuries the victim sustained in this case were not life-threatening and the driver’s impatience got him a trip to the Green Roof Inn.”
The victim – who works for a private company in charge of re-paving the roadway on Camino Del Mar Parkway – stated that he was regulating one-way travel through the area when he noticed the driver of a black Porsche Cayenne enter into the single lane of travel when it was not their turn.
The victim attempted to stop the driver of the Porsche – later identified as Steimle – in order to prevent a headon collision. The victim stated the driver became irate and yelled at the victim before revving the vehicle’s engine and lunging forward, striking the victim in the legs. The victim was not seriously injured.
After being struck, the victim moved out of the vehicle’s path and the driver continued to proceed onto Granada Drive. Several witnesses in the area corroborated the victim’s account of the incident to Deputies.
The victim was able to take a photo of the vehicle’s license plate, which helped lead Deputies to the home on San Marco Court where Steimle was located. Upon arrival to the address, Steimle spoke to Deputies and was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
