Kara Tointon vowed never to return to EastEnders on Wednesday and revealed she believes soap operas will be discontinued soon.
The BBC star, 39, who played the effervescent Dawn Swann from 2005 to 2009, is shocked by how much viewers still love her character after she left more than a decade ago.
The actress admitted that she is often asked about her time on the BBC show, but actually ‘enjoying other things’ and ‘no, can’t see’ herself returning.
‘Every year I get asked about it’: Kara Tointon vowed never to return to EastEnders on Wednesday, revealing she believes soap operas will soon be abolished
She told The Sun: ‘Every year I get questions about it. It’s what I’m most known for, what I’ve been watched the most, but I really like doing a lot of other things, so I can’t see it, no.”
Kara believes the Neighbors following that was discontinued earlier this year due to the dropping of other soap operas won’t be far behind.
Research shows that the number of EastEnders viewers fell sharply to 1.4 million in June, falling dramatically in the 16-34 age group.

Kara attributed this fall to fans who couldn’t catch up because so many episodes have been released and the plots “go so fast.”
She explained: “It’s a great production line, but I think they can cut it down to twice a week and have more time to… You wonder how things are going and how long those serial dramas last.” .’
The actress, who now has two young sons, Frey, three, and Helly, 12 months, admits she doesn’t have time to watch the show anymore.
She said: “I’m in a time where I don’t watch as much as I normally would because I’m in bed by 9 when I’m off my feet, so I watch entertainment when it suits me and when I can.”
However, Kara told the publication that she still enjoys Strictly Come Dancing after winning the series in 2012, despite her dances now being “archived” and replaced with newer stars on the show.
The star is currently returning to acting in ITV’s new drama Archie, playing the younger version of Carry Grant’s mother Elsie Leach.
