Horrifying bodycam footage showed a heroic cop shot and killed an anti-gun violence activist who held a large knife to a woman’s head.
Tyree Moorehead, 46, was caught by police on Saturday standing over a woman with a knife in his hand at the intersection of North Fulton Avenue and West Lafayette Avenue in Baltimore.
Moorehead is known for creating more than 250 no-shoot zones in Baltimore where someone was shot and killed to raise awareness of gun violence.
Footage shows Officer Zachary Rutherford arriving at the scene and calling for backup while seeing Moorehead with the knife.
“Go down, go down,” Rutherford yelled several times as he aimed his gun at Moorehead, who then jumped on top of the woman, appearing to put the knife to her face.
Moorehead was shot more than a dozen times and quickly rolled onto his back—allowing the woman to crawl away.
He lay lifeless on the ground, clutching the weapon as the officer yelled “drop the knife.” There was no more shooting.
The activist was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The woman was not injured – and police said the attack was a random act of violence.

Carton Moorehead, the activist’s father, witnessed a shooting and said the number of times he was shot was unnecessary.
“The police shouldn’t have shot him so much,” Carton said, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the officer’s actions were necessary.
“We think it’s clear that this officer saved this woman’s life,” Harrison said.
Moorehead is an ex-gang member who used graffiti to designate no-shoot zones to discourage gun violence.
The activist spent 18 years in prison for first-degree murder committed when he was 15.
He was released from prison in 2012 and had devoted his time to trying to team up with criminals in Baltimore to reduce the crime rate.
Moorehead previously told FOX 45 last year that he believes the way to lower the rising number of shootings in the city is to pay criminals not to kill people.
‘I can empathize with the shooters, guess what they want? They want money.
“I’ve talked to these people, I’ve seen the gunmen, it’s a small town, I know who the scammers are,” he said.
He gave no details on how such a system would work.
Moorehead is pictured wearing a shirt with his ‘no shoot zone’ message, intended to discourage Baltimore residents and gang members from using guns to hurt each other
The ex-gang member has created over 200 different ‘no shoot zone’ signs, each posted where someone was shot and killed
Moorehead was shot in the back, neck and jaw near Monument Street in August while going to the store in downtown Baltimore.
“I was shot three times,” Moorehead told reporters at the time. “A bullet went through my jaw, my neck and one is still in my back.”
Moorehead came home before being taken to the hospital. He left without being fired.
He told a reporter he was “good” and also said “nothing went wrong, you just have someone trying to protect a community that clearly doesn’t want to be protected.”
Moorehead showed reporters where he was shot in August and said a bullet went through his jaw, another through his neck and another still in his back.
