Newcastle striker Miguel Almiron has rejected the idea that his remarkable form was boosted by Jack Grealish after he was crowned Premier League Player of the Month in October.
Almiron has enjoyed a renaissance in his Newcastle career this season, scoring a total of eight goals – six in October alone – to help them climb the rankings under Eddie Howe.
It is the first time that Almiron wins the prize.
There were lighthearted reports from fans that Almiron was motivated and driven by Grealish, who made disparaging remarks to Bernardo Silva during Manchester City’s title parade in May regarding Almiron.

Miguel Almiron has said his stunning form has not been boosted by Jack Grealish’s comments
Asked by Silva what the secrets of City’s comeback against Villa were, Grealish replied: ‘There were two. Riyadh (Mahrez), get him off the field ASAP. He played as (Miguel) Almiron.
“Second, he (pointing to Bernardo Silva), he’s been so good this season, but take him off the field.”
Asked on Friday whether the incident had inspired him to new heights for himself this season, Almiron told Sky Sports the award was due to his own hard work.
The Paraguayan was named player of the month in August after scoring six times
‘I don’t think anything Jack’ [Grealish] said has something to do with the great form and performance we’ve shown as a group of players,” he said.
“Jack is first and foremost a great player and I wish him all the best, but this success is due to work, work and more hard work.”
Almiron had previously told the Newcastle Chronicle that he did not focus too much on the comments, choosing to focus on his own game.
“All that incident did was really emphasize that when things like that happen here, it shows the greatness of the Newcastle supporters,” he said.
Goals against Fulham, Tottenham and Aston Villa, among others, ensured that Almiron won the prize
He teased some of his City teammates to the hysteria of the rest of the squad and staff
I actually didn’t pay too much attention to the comments at first. I’ll be honest, because I’d rather just get on with my job and do my work in silence. I just carry on with my job and all that matters to me is to improve myself.
“If you achieve anything in life, it is only through hard work and sacrifice, especially in football, it is never through words.
“The moment the (Grealish) things all came up I was filled with happiness and pride with the way the Newcastle supporters gathered around me.
“They showed their support at that moment and that was very important.”
Almiron had his boot ‘cleaned’ by fellow Tyneside cult hero Joelinton at Tottenham last month
He added that he does not hold a grudge against the City star.
“Would I shake his hand next time we line up to play against Manchester City? Yes, I would.
“Of course I would shake his hand if we were playing against Manchester City without a doubt.
“Like I said and as I keep pushing people, Jack Grealish is a great player and I wish him all the best.”
Almiron’s stunning month has helped Newcastle to third in the league, seven points behind leaders Arsenal. They face Chelsea on Saturday night, offering nine points ahead of Graham Potter’s side.
