Sydney Sweeney has reflected on the ‘wildfire’ of the controversy that sparked when she posted snaps of her mom’s birthday party guests wearing MAGA-inspired hats.
The 25-year-old actress was accused of being ‘right-wing’ in August when she shared photos which featured a male guest wearing what appeared to be a Blue Lives Matter shirt — and others wearing MAGA parody hats at the event in Spokane, Washington.
The Euphoria star told British GQ“Honestly, I feel like nothing I’m saying can help the conversation.

In August, Sweeney criticized “absurd” claims about her family’s political ties when fans accused the actress of being right-wing.
Born in Spokane, Washington, and raised in a family business in rural Idaho, the star said, “You guys, this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mother’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not intended.
“Please stop making assumptions. Lots of love to everyone and happy birthday mom!’ she concluded.
Sweeney grew up in northwest Idaho before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

He wrote a short note in the post’s caption explaining that “The hats say ‘Make Sixty Great Again’”, a clear reference to his mother’s age.
Many of Sweeney’s fans took to their various social media outlets to comment on the content of her post.

“We are really going to witness the demise of Sydney Sweeney, I know her team is going crazy,” another person tweeted.
On Instagram, a user left a message in the comments section of the post, asking why the actress was “kicking at people who wear blue lives matter merch.”

Another wrote that the alleged political views of the White Lotus actress’ family had been “exposed.”
One Twitter user also wrote that “posting pictures of your family members literally wearing white supremacist memorabilia is so, so weird.”
However, many fans of Sweeney also came to her aid in various social media posts.
One Twitter user in particular wrote a message to the actress stating that she “didn’t have to explain anything about your family to anyone!”

Sweeney has been open about her admiration for her parents, sharing how her mother in particular helped her when she decided to take up acting during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my dreams without her support for that decision. I was 12, 13 years old and my mom and dad gave up everything they knew so that I could pursue my dreams,” she recalls.
The artist made it a point to describe how her mother and father were particularly dedicated to helping her become successful in acting.
