Raheem Sterling has not been selected in Chelsea’s squad to face Newcastle.
The England star was named in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad on Thursday but is not included in Graham Potter’s plans at St James’ Park.
The Chelsea manager confirmed before the game that Sterling had been out due to illness.

Chelsea team-mates Ben Chilwell and Reece James missed Southgate’s 26-man squad due to injuries, while Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher were recalled by the England coach.
Sterling will miss a crucial game in the top four of the race as the Blues aim for a win against Newcastle in form, which are six points clear of the standings.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta and midfielder Jorginho came to the side, while summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was named on the bench.
Newcastle hit man Callum Wilson, whose late flurry of goals landed him a spot in England’s World Cup squad, has also missed a starting spot due to an illness, but unlike Sterling, he is one of the replacements.
