Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett speaks during the Federalist Society’s 40th Anniversary dinner at Union Station in Washington, Monday, Nov. 10, 2022.

Barrett spoke Thursday at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention anniversary gala.
While there, she joked that the applause she received was nicer than hearing pro-choice protesters.
Barrett’s vote solidified the majority that overturned Roe v Wade and limited abortion rights.

While at a dinner for conservative lawyers this week, Amy Coney Barrett, a Supreme Court Justice who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, joked that the applause she received was nicer than listening to pro-choice protesters.

On Thursday at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention 40th anniversary gala, Justice Barrett was met with a standing ovation, Fox News reported, as the audience of nearly 2,000 conservative lawyers welcomed her to the stage.

“It’s really nice to have a lot of noise made not by protesters outside of my house,” Barrett said, prompting louder applause from the crowd.

As the most recent appointee to the nation’s highest court, Barrett’s vote solidified the conservative court majority that overturned Roe v Wade and limited abortion rights across the nation.

Trump-nominated Barrett was also the only woman on the court to vote to roll back the protections offered by Roe.

Though pro-choice activists have protested against Barrett since before she was confirmed to the court, they have been more active since she voted to roll back abortion rights. Protesters wearing blood-soaked clothing and dressed in outfits from “The Handmaid’s Tale” have regularly gathered outside the Justice’s home since a draft opinion leaked in May indicated the court was prepared to overrule Roe.

Brett Kavanaugh, a current Supreme Court Justice whose polarizing confirmation hearings made headlines after he was publicly accused of sexual assault, has faced similar protests near his home and in public spaces in the months since the leaked decision was published. In June, a California man armed with a gun and knife was arrested outside Kavanaugh’s Maryland home and is facing the federal charge of attempted murder of a United States judge.

Representatives for the Supreme Court did not immediately return Insider’s requests for comment.
