A 15-year-old girl who was repeatedly sexually assaulted by an older man for more than a month in 2020 is now raising a baby.
Nathaniel Roberts, 26, will spend up to five and a half years behind bars for his offense after admitting four charges of sexually penetrating a child.
Roberts, who worked as a pizza delivery boy before his arrest, was not violent or abusive toward the girl, but there are consent laws and laws protecting children under 16, Judge Michael McInerney said Tuesday.
Young women should be protected from men who have sex with them when they are minors and especially if they do so without using any protection.

“It’s hard to imagine how stupid someone can be,” he said of Roberts.
The sexual relationship between the couple was short-lived and it is believed that the girl became pregnant after their second time together.
It started in August 2020 when the girl told Roberts she was only 15.
They had sex four times, including once when she was heavily intoxicated. Roberts was also under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.
In late August, the couple again discussed her age and the risks of having sex with a child her age.
“Apparently there was some sort of agreement where she said she wouldn’t tell anyone about the circumstances of their sexual contacts,” Judge McInerney said in the County Court.
The girl later told her mother that she thought she was pregnant.
A doctor who confirmed the pregnancy reported Roberts’ violation to the police in accordance with the requirements.
Roberts confessed to his actions to the police.
He was convicted as a serious sex offender due to the ongoing nature of their relationships and will be entered on the sex offender registry.

The girl told the court that due to her young age, she did not realize at the time what was wrong with the relationship.
“She obviously loves her child very much, but she mostly talks about the limitations and difficulties of … a young girl who has a duty to raise a child,” Judge McInerney said.
“The restrictions she’s talking about are precisely the restrictions that form the basis for the passing of this legislation by Parliament.”
Roberts must serve at least three years and nine months before being eligible for parole.
Judge McInerney wished Roberts luck for the future and said he had good prospects for rehabilitation.
He was assisted in court by his mother and partner, who collapsed after the verdict was handed down.
