A young McDonald’s crew member surprised his colleagues by leaving work in the middle of his shift after being asked to clean greasy kitchen equipment.
The viral incident filmed at a New Zealand fast food restaurant has divided the internet after images were posted on TikTok.
The abrupt walkout video opens with footage of a sink filled with grills and fryers after the young worker was told to roll up his sleeves and start scrubbing.
“Hell no, I’m not cleaning that, I’m not cleaning that,” he said.
‘Actually, I quit!’
His angry manager can be heard yelling at him as the bewildered workers beg him to stay.
A woman frustrated by her colleague’s surprise exit can be seen waving her arms in exasperation.
‘Nope! Get back here!’ the manager is heard yelling.
A colleague added: ‘Oh fuck that!’
The young worker stands his ground and leaves.
I resign, I’m leaving Maccas. See you on the other side, you bastards!’ he said.
The video went viral, racking up more than 1.4 million views within 12 hours of being posted.
Exasperated staff begged the young McDonalds crew member to stay, as he quit his job in the middle of a shift after being ordered to wash up.
“They really thought I was going to clean that up,” the team member captioned the video, drawing a divided response from viewers.
“I work at McDonald’s, I feel you,” one viewer commented.
But many had little sympathy and did not believe the job was as bad as the Maccas crew member made it out to be.
“Not even that bad, it’s like 20 minutes of work,” wrote one viewer.
Another added: “Kids don’t want to work, they’re lazy as hell.”
Others said they would have happily completed the job without complaint.
“Loved the dishes so much it meant I didn’t have to work on orders,” wrote one.
McDonald’s has 10,000 employees in 170 restaurants in New Zealand.
