She had just broken the world record for the 110-yard freestyle.</span></p> <p>Wins came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the javelin throw, the men’s high jump, the women’s 110-yard freestyle, and the men’s 110-yard butterfly.</p> <p>Dawn Fraser set a new world record of 59.6 seconds in the swim race tonight. She surpassed her previous record by 0.3 seconds. Percy Hobson added to the gold medal score with a jump of 6 feet 11 inches to win the high jump. Kevin Berry won the 110-yard butterfly final.</p> <p>The Australians also won three silver and three bronze medals today. Silver medal winners were Dave Power (six mile run), Jean Roberts (women’s shot put), and Chilla Porter (second to Hobson in the high jump).</p> </div><!-- /wp:html -->
