Apple’s 2021 Apple TV 4K is $50 less expensive than the latest model for Black Friday 2022.

Right now, Amazon is offering the 2021 Apple TV 4K (second generation) for $80, which is the lowest price we’ve seen for this model and $50 less than the new 2022 Apple TV 4K (third generation) that starts at $130.
Arguably, you shouldn’t buy the 2021 Apple TV 4K for more than $80 — the $130 2022 Apple TV 4K runs on a significantly newer processor for faster navigation and app performance. As a result, it’ll have a longer lifespan than the 2021 model.
That’s not to say that the 2021 Apple TV 4K is a bad media streamer. It supports most of the best video and audio standards, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos. The only standard it’s missing from the 2022 model is HDR10+, and it uses the older A12 processor. The remote is the same, except the newer version uses USB-C to recharge versus Lightning in the older model. In everyday use, we find the 2021 model’s performance perfectly fast while delivering great-looking sound and video.
The 2021 Apple TV 4K for $80 is a solid deal for an Apple media streamer that a majority of people will enjoy.
If you’re shopping around, it’s worth noting that the 2022 Roku Ultra media streamer is down to $70 from its typical $100. Roku’s 2022 update of the Ultra comes with a Voice Remote Pro, and supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos.
