Australian cricket great Simon O’Donnell thinks Justin Langer needs to be more dignified after criticizing captain Pat Cummins and other ‘cowards’ who forced him out of the role.
Speaking at SEN Breakfast on Thursday, O’Donnell said Langer’s legacy will be tarnished in the sport if the former leadoff hitter continues to go public with his grievances.
In February, Langer announced his resignation as head coach of the Australian men’s team.
His contract was due to expire in June, but he turned down a six-month extension offered by Cricket Australia.
‘Unfortunately, the [Langer] he hasn’t gone into the sunset, said goodbye and enjoyed all that he’s accomplished,’ O’Donnell told listeners on Thursday.

‘At the end of the day, the game is bigger than the individual.
“I wish it would stop and if you need to do something about it, I think you need to go through other channels instead of just getting carried away with podcasts or news services.”
O’Donnell later added: ‘You can’t carry these grudges forever. You have to move on and it’s taking a while to move on.
“I love Justin Langer, I love what he did for Australian cricket, but Justin wasn’t sacked. Justin was offered a six month extension to his contract which he did not agree to.

He spoke of his controversial departure as Australia manager and how it fell apart before his eyes.
I spoke with Pat Cummins. He told me about five times, ‘This could be brutally honest,’” Langer said.
“I told him, ‘Pat, there’s nothing brutal about your comments.’ What is brutal is that I hear it behind my back through the media or through ‘sources’.
Nobody tells me. Tell me. “People say I’m very intense, but they confuse intensity with honesty.”
Justin Langer stepped down as Australia manager in February this year after only being offered a short-term extension by Cricket Australia, with most players saying his coaching style was “too intense”.
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley strongly disputes Langer’s version of events, saying there are a “number of inaccuracies”.
Langer wasn’t done yet, adding: “I’ve never said this publicly, the hardest thing for me was the feedback,” he said.
“Then I did something about it, we won the T20 World Cup, we won the Ashes, we were No. 1 in the world, I never enjoyed training more and still got fired.”
That is the hardest.
It is suggested that Langer work for Channel 7 this summer as part of their cricket coverage for series against the West Indies and South Africa.
