One wrote: ‘What a journey for Nick Kyrgios. Always capable of great things and now he is finally fulfilling his potential. Carry on, Nick.’
Another wrote: ‘Nick Kyrgios just absolutely dominated that quarterfinal against a very good player.
“You like to see it, as it sometimes seemed like man versus boy.”
And it looks like Kyrgios is developing a crossover appeal for those not normally interested in the sport.
“I’ve never been a big tennis fan but Kyrgios made one for me, so much fun to watch,” admitted another.
Kyrgios was able to put his off-the-court troubles aside after news that he is the subject of a domestic violence allegation by ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari.
Kyrgios has sparked controversy but finds some fans hot for him
Kyrgios has been asked to attend court next month in his native Canberra, where information will be provided regarding a charge of ordinary assault.
His focus on Wednesday seemed to be nowhere, but Chile’s court and Garin were easily overcome.
One fan called his performance “incredible” and another went so far as to say: “Kyrgios wins the whole thing, incredible performance in the tournament so far.”
Kyrgios will cherish his chances of going all the way despite the swirling storm around him. If the charge of ordinary assault is proved, the maximum sentence is two years in prison.

Nick Kyrgios (pictured with his ex Chiara Passari) has been accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a domestic violence incident that allegedly took place late last year
His attorney Jason Moffett told the paper: “It’s in the context of a domestic relationship. The nature of the allegation is serious and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously. As the case is in court, he has no comment at this time, but we will release a release in due course.”
Kyrgios previously caused controversy at Wimbledon against Briton Paul Jubb and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. The latter described him as a bully with an evil side, which Kyrgios denied.
In his match against Jubb, he spat at an offending spectator and called a linesman a “snitch”.
It will be fascinating to see who will support the audience in the semi-finals and final if he manages to reach the showpiece.
