One of Australia’s largest prisons has been targeted by anonymous hackers who demand a ‘ransom’ to stop cyber-attacks.
Port Phillip Prison in western Melbourne has been forced to suspend visits to inmates after its computer systems fell victim to a cyberattack involving ransom.
It is clear that the hackers have taken over the systems of the Truganina prison and demanded the transfer of ransom to get it back.

Visits to the prison’s 1,000 inmates, both in person and via video, have been temporarily suspended as police investigate the cyber attack.
Victoria Police Department and the state government’s Cyber Incident Response Team have been notified of the security breach Herald Sun reports.
A spokesman for the Port Phillip operator, G4S, confirmed that the prison has been the victim of a cybersecurity incident and said inmates and staff were unaffected.
Corrections Victoria is currently working with G4S to ensure these issues are resolved as soon as possible,” the spokeswoman said.
“There has been no impact on the safety and security of staff and prisoners.”
More to come.
