A Vietnam veteran has won more than $2.4 million in a lottery – after buying the same numbers six times in one day.
Raymond Roberts Snr has played the lottery for over 20 years and chose the numbers based on a combination of birthdays and anniversary dates.
He had used the numbers before, but said he felt an “intuition” that he should buy more tickets on that day.
The lottery awards a fixed amount for correctly choosing the five numbers drawn, which means that Mr. Roberts won six times the fixed amount on December 14.
The Vietnam veteran said he wants to buy a motorcycle from his winnings. He will receive an upfront payment of $1.95 million
The company that sold the tickets will also receive payment of $30,000 – $5,000 for each of the tickets (file image)
When he accepted his prize the next day, he chose to receive five $390,000 lump sums and have the other ticket paid out over the next 20 years.
He will receive a payment of $25,000 each year – and $1.95 million upfront.
The veteran, who lives in Fall River near Boston, said he wanted to buy a motorcycle with his winnings.
The lottery, called Lucky For Life, is just one of many games and scratch cards that residents of Mass
According to the rules of the game, the odds of winning only the $25,000 per year prize for life are one in 1,813,028.
Roberts Sr. bought the winning tickets at Royal Liquors in Fall River. The company receives $30,000 in bonuses – $5,000 for each ticket.
