A drama school teacher said he was forced to quit his Catholic school job after students called him gay in a viral TikTok trend.
His career was blighted by the teens who used TikTok to post “clues” in a “guess who” viral social media trend.
The series of snippets of information pointed to the identity of the unnamed Perth drama teacher and gave him away.
The music video featured the school’s coat of arms with clues, “not many people like him,” the name of his schoolhouse group, images of theater comedy, a tragedy mask and a muscular male torso next to a pride flag.

The Tik Tok was a ‘guess who’ game that is currently popular in the app and offers ‘clues’ suggesting that the drama teacher was gay
“I was the victim of students who made a TikTok about me that basically stuck me out,” the teacher told The Western Australian†
“Being gay and working in a Catholic school believes the scriptures and the church that homosexuality is wrong and that teachers can be fired from their roles on religious grounds.”
The working conditions for all Catholic education teachers prohibit them from coming out publicly as homosexual.
The teacher had been at the school for six years and said he loved his job and was disappointed by the lack of support from the Catholic system.
And he said more needs to be done to protect teachers from cyber-harassment by students.
A spokesman for Catholic Education WA said it believed strongly in respecting the dignity of every person and condemned harassment of any kind.
“While it would not be appropriate to comment on matters involving individual staff or students, the safety and well-being of all students and staff is at the heart of our processes and practices,” the spokesperson said.
“Adequate online behavior remains an educational and pastoral focus with clear policies and procedures if student behavior does not meet the high standards expected.”
The TikTok community guidelines state that the platform does not tolerate bullying or harassment of any kind and encourages users to report inappropriate content.
