Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said Lucas was on his bike when he was hit on Vernon Street (above), Bolton at around 1.40pm on Friday.
On Saturday, local residents who lived near the crime scene said the community was shocked and devastated by Lucas’ death.
Leoni Johnson said she witnessed the aftermath of the horrific crash and described hearing the “terrible” screams of who she believed was the boy’s mother.
She said she “couldn’t look” as the road became flooded with emergency services.
Ms Johnson said: ‘I went to the shop and by the time I got back the road was full of police.
“There were riot trucks in the back street. I heard the mother scream, cry. It was horrible.
“I’m a mom too, so I couldn’t watch, I had to go inside. We heard on the news that he had passed away. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare.”
She said children in the area regularly cycle along Vernon Street and other roads in the area.
Mrs Johnson said: ‘There are so many little kids playing here, including mine. It is a pity. It’s just been Christmas and today is New Year’s Eve. I can’t imagine what that family is going through.’

Another resident said the incident had shocked the local community.
“It’s absolutely devastating. It was really creepy and sad yesterday.
“Even before we knew he had died, you just knew. There was a bad feeling. It’s a pretty close-knit community.
‘Everyone knows everyone here. It has shocked the neighbourhood. You just don’t think something like this happens on your doorstep.’
Floral tributes to Lucas have been left at the scene of the crash.
On one of the bushes was a note: ‘Fly high with the angels. Sleep well. Always in our thoughts.’
