Convicted Murderer Kills N.C. Family, Deputies Say<!-- wp:html --><p>Robeson County, NC – A Red Springs man who spent nearly 27 years in prison for murder has been charged with murdering three people and injuring a fourth person.</p> <p>On Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at approximately 2:46 pm, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Samuel Williams Drive Red Springs, NC.</p> <p>James Elijah Beauregard, 45, Donald Kendrick Williams, 51, and Sierra Nicole Wherry, 34, all of Red Springs were found deceased upon arrival of law enforcement. Equilla Williams Biggs, 71, of Red Springs was transported to an undisclosed medical center and treated for her injuries.</p> <p>On Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at approximately 4:30 pm, Corey Grant Leak, 46, of Red Springs was arrested in the area of Hwy 71N. and Bryant Circle, just outside Maxton by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office investigators.</p> <p>Leak is charged with three counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted first degree murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and one count of possession of firearm by a convicted felon.</p> <p>Leak was placed in the custody of the Robeson County Detention Office with no bond for the murder charges and a one million dollar bond for the other offenses.<br /> Leak is the nephew of Biggs and first cousin of Williams and Wherry. Leak and Beauregard grew up together in the same community. Leak served almost 27 years in the North Carolina Department of Corrections for first degree murder and is currently on parole.</p> <p>Leak was charged with a murder of Arreatta “Sasue” Scott that occurred on December 29, 1993. On July 12, 1996, Corey Leak was sentenced to life in prison for the death Scott. Leak was released on October 12, 2020 and has not been charged with any criminal offenses since he was released.</p> <p>Based on the information obtained during the investigation, the motive for the shootings appears to be an argument about money related to drugs.</p> <p>The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation.
