A 16-year-old mother has gone viral on TikTok after she made a video about taking her one-year-old to the prom as her date after she couldn’t find a babysitter for him.
Melissa McCabe, from Tranmere, Merseyside, was just 15 when she gave birth to her son Arthur in November 2020, whom she raised without his father’s help.
Despite getting negative comments for becoming a mother at such a young age, Melissa has said she was “ruining her life” but called Arthur her “greatest blessing.”
Melissa revealed on TikTok that she took the toddler to prom as her date, and made a video with sweet snaps of the couple in their finery.

A caption across the screen at the beginning of the clip says, “Everyone goes to the prom with their boyfriend, while I took my biggest blessing.”
The video, which received 1.6 million views, was inundated with positive comments from social media users praising Melissa for being the “best mom” and calling Arthur “cute.”
However, not all the comments Melissa has received during pregnancy and motherhood have been so positive.
She told the Liverpool Echo: ‘When I found out I was pregnant, I was of course still very young. It was hard because everyone told me I was ruining my life and I wouldn’t pass my GCSEs. So many people make comments when I’m out with him.

“A lot of times people think he’s my little brother and when I say he’s mine, their attitude changes completely. Older people especially think it’s disgusting, because it was clearly their way of getting married first and then having children.’
Now Melissa, who has recently completed her GCSEs and is going to college in September to study Health and Social Care, wants to break the stigma surrounding being a teenage mother.
She regularly posts videos about her life with Arthur, talks about the challenges of motherhood and how much she enjoys her child, who she describes as her “best friend.”
While Melissa got negativity for becoming a mother at age 15, the reactions to her prom video were positive, praising the mother-son duo
TikTok users took to the comment section of Melissa’s prom video to lavishly praise the young mother and her son.
One wrote: ‘Omg you are the best mom, the most beautiful person I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing and the happiest person ever xx’
Another added: “This is the cutest…he looks so proud in his suit.”
A third wrote, “Best date you can have.”
