Carrie Bickmore weighed in on the “age-old problem” of gender pay inequality, despite admitting she earns more than $1 million a year.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Project, Bickmore said the gender pay gap is $1 billion, with sexism in the workplace largely to blame.

“It’s an age-old problem that has been exacerbated by the pandemic,” Bickmore said.

‘So what are the solutions? How do we balance the scales?’

However, her comments have come under fire after The Daily Telegraph revealed that her job on the plum panel earns her about $1.5 million a year.

Census data released in February by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that Australian women earn an average of $226 less each week than men in the public sector and $307 less in the private sector.

dr. Emma Fulu, director of the Equality Institute, told Bickmore’s Project co-host Waleed Aly, who also has a seven-figure income, that the pay gap largely comes down to a lack of affordable childcare, sexual discrimination in the workplace, and in defining ‘ important jobs and social pressures.

“We have to recognize that we still don’t have a free quality education for young children and that the work on the pension gap has only just begun,” said Dr. Fulu.

‘What we see from this report is that the causes of the gender pay gap are mainly related to discrimination.

“Discrimination refers to things like sexual harassment, everyday sexism, unconscious bias in hiring practices, even domestic violence.

Bickmore agreed, saying, “Obviously there’s a long way to go. I think I was reading between 2017 and 2019 that the gap seemed to be closing a little bit, but then the pandemic hit and women suffered. How do we get it back on track?’

dr. Fulu agreed, saying that women are “being the victims” of Covid policies because they were expected to take on more housework while working from home.
