Average 30-year fixed rates are now back up to 6.32%.</p> <div class="insider-raw-embed"> <div class="myFinance-widget"></div> </div> <p>Rates have gone up in response to the latest inflation and labor market data, which shows that the economy remains strong in spite of tightening from the Federal Reserve. Last week, <a href="https://www.dol.gov/ui/data.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">initial jobless claims</a> remained low, the Department of Labor reported on Thursday. Earlier this week, the latest consumer price index report showed that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-high-is-inflation-cpi-report-january-price-growth-2023-2">inflation remains stubbornly</a> high at 6.4% year over year.</p> <p>Though a strong economy is generally a good thing, if it becomes too hot, inflation grows too quickly. This raises the cost of goods and services, including mortgages. Rates have gone up in response to the latest inflation and labor market data, which shows that the economy remains strong in spite of tightening from the Federal Reserve. Last week, initial jobless claims remained low, the Department of Labor reported on Thursday. Earlier this week, the latest consumer price index report showed that inflation remains stubbornly high at 6.4% year over year.
