A New Jersey couple has discovered wads of 1930s cash buried in the backyard of their home, revealing the shocking history behind the property, believed to be a former brothel.
Suzanne and Rich Gilson were stunned when they hid a ton of money — about $1,000 in all — under the grass while recently doing renovations to their yard.

The pair were intrigued by the mysterious discovery, leaving them wanting to learn more about how the money got there and why it was buried in the ground; And they were soon surprised to learn that their house, which stands in Wildwood and was built in the 1920s, was actually a former prostitution house.
According to NJ.com, the Gilsons bought the house four years ago. The couple recently decided they wanted to remove some of the rocks from their yard, so Rich rented a mini-excavator and got to work.

Suzanne and Rich Gilson, of New Jersey, were stunned when they hid a ton of money — $1,000 in all — under the grass while recently doing renovations.
However, his construction came to a halt when he saw two ‘little round things’ in the mud.
“I thought it was weeds,” he told the outlet. “I picked them up and just tossed them aside and they went on the pile I used to fill.”
However, the mysterious objects were not weeds. They were actually bundles of cash – tightly coiled $10 and $20 bills wrapped in brown paper, held together with rubber bands.
“I had to look at the edge and it had a green tint to it and I said, ‘This is money,’” Rich continued.
“It looked like little mini cigars all tied together. When I took it apart, I started to see what it was.”
The money had been put in a pot in the ground under the porch of the house, which Rich thought he had accidentally broken while working in the yard.
After reviewing the notes, Rich discovered something else intriguing. He explained: ‘Each bill is dated 1934, Serie A, which I thought was odd.

“Now if you go in your pocket and look at your bills… they’re not all from the same year. It just doesn’t work that way.’
The outlet reported that $1,000 in 1934 would be equivalent to about $21,000 today.
Rich began researching the property and was told by neighbors who have lived in their home for three generations that it was once a brothel.
He added: “My feeling is that something strange has happened. Somehow someone got new bills, rolled them up like that and put them in a jar.
“Someone hid it, not just under their bed or in a wall for safekeeping.”
Rich said he doesn’t plan to spend the money because “the story is too good for what it’s worth.”
