Nottingham Forest has confirmed the transfer of Burnley goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey for free.
The 35-year-old Wales international has signed a two-year deal at City Ground and will compete for Dean Henderson, who was hired from Manchester United earlier this month.
Forest needed reinforcements in that department after Brice Samba indicated he would not sign a new contract and left to join Lens.

Hennessey told the club’s website: “I’ve come up against Forest many times in the past and it’s a fantastic club. There is a great fan base and the atmosphere at The City Ground is up there with the best in the game. It will be a different level now that we are back in the Premier League.
“I’ve also played with and against some Forest players. It’s a very exciting time to come on board and I can’t wait to get involved and train here at Nigel Doughty Academy.”
The 35-year-old spent one season at Burnley after an eight-year spell at Crystal Palace, before signing for Steve Cooper’s newly promoted side.

The Wales international has already joined his new squad for their friendly against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.
Forest manager Steve Cooper said: ‘Wayne is an excellent goalkeeper who has proven himself at the highest level for many years.
“He has helped Wales reach new heights in the international game and he has a wealth of Premier League experience. However, Wayne is also a great character and a very strong addition to the Nottingham Forest dressing room.”

Congolese goalkeeper Samba made clear his intention to leave Forest last month, before the club offered him a deal that fell short of the shot-stoppers’ demands.
It is implied that Samba did not feel that the proposed contract reflected his importance to the squad, or what he had accomplished with the squad in three years.
So Nottingham Forest decided to sign Hennessey, who was limited to just two appearances at Turf Moor last season.
Hennessey played second fiddle to Nick Pope during the 2021-2022 season and, despite the England goalkeeper’s departure, was considered over-required.
