Smith, 21, has been sidelined for weeks as a result of separate suspensions for headbutt and illegal drug use – the latest incident occurred off-season with the midfielder citing mental health concerns after losing the grand final.
Luke Beveridge’s squad has fallen out of the top eight during Smith’s suspensions, with his return as a big boost for their final sprint to the finish.
And the youngster was ready to help his side at Marvel Stadium, where the Doggies took a 52-16 lead at halftime.
