Nicole Billa’s stunning header from the penalty area in the 37th minute gave Austria a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Norway and qualified for second place behind England from Group A.
Austria’s organization and resolute defense kept one of the better attacking teams of the tournament quiet and Norway still appeared to be in shock after their 8-0 mauling at the hands of England.
After spending much of the game as a spectator, Austrian goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger had to be on the lookout for a shot on the crossbar in the 90th minute, before choking another in the 92nd.
Norway exits the tournament for the first time in the group stage of consecutive European Championships.
Second in the group, Austria will now face Group B winner Germany, who was widely predicted to have a chance to go all the way.
