NNA – Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) will organize on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, a virtual workshop themed “The Media Circulation of the Terminology of the Palestinian Cause”.
The workshop will be held with the participation of representatives of international organizations and member news agencies to examine the terms used by international media in covering events in the occupied Palestinian territories and evaluate them according to their adherence to the provisions of international law and their support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, UNA Acting Director-General, said the organization of this workshop comes to implement the resolutions issued by the UNA General Assembly and the Islamic Conferences of OIC Media Ministers, which called for taking the necessary steps in combating disinformation and misinformation about the Palestinian people and Israel’s unlawful occupation and aggression in the territories of the State of Palestine.
“To properly accomplish the provisions of these resolutions, it is necessary to correct the terminology circulating in the media when it comes to covering the events and developments of Palestine, for Language is an essential element in shaping public awareness of a particular issue, and the terminology employed in describing a phenomenon contributes significantly to framing

it within a particular perspective, positively or negatively,” he added.
Al-Yami revealed that the workshop aims to set up the outlines for a comprehensive media guideline on terms related to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He called on media professionals in Islamic countries to attend the workshop, which will be broadcast via Zoom on the following link:  https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_zdxRTxBlQsiZYtddNDKudA
