“Scream 6,” the latest movie in the hit slasher franchise, premiered exclusively in theaters on March 10. The movie doesn’t have a streaming release date yet, but it’s expected to hit Paramount Plus after its run in theaters.
Following the Woodsboro massacre in “Scream” (2022), survivors Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad move to New York City to start the next chapter in their lives. However, they soon find themselves as the targets of a new Ghostface killing spree, leading them to team up with past survivors Kirby Reed and Gale Weathers.

Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding reprise their roles from “Scream” (2022) as Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad, respectively. Also returning from earlier “Scream” movies are Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed. “Scream 6” marks the first film in the series without Neve Campbell as final girl Sidney Prescott.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, as well as screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, return from “Scream” (2022). Joining the cast of “Scream 6” are Jack Champion (“Avatar: The Way of Water”), Dermot Mulroney (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”), and Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”).
How to watch ‘Scream 6’
You can now watch “Scream 6” exclusively in theaters. The movie premiered in cinemas on March 10. As such, you won’t be able to purchase or stream the film at home quite yet.
As well as standard showings, “Scream 6” is screening in IMAX and Dolby Cinema at premium prices. You can buy tickets to see “Scream 6” at theater chains like AMC, Cinemark, and Regal directly through their own platforms or via third parties like Fandango, MovieTickets.com, and Atom.
When will ‘Scream 6’ be available to stream?
Paramount has yet to announce an official streaming release date for “Scream 6,” but the movie is expected to hit Paramount Plus this year.
Other recent Paramount movies, like “Smile” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” arrived on Paramount Plus 46 days after premiering in theaters. If “Scream 6” follows this trend, it could start streaming on Paramount Plus as soon as April 25.
However, some Paramount movies have taken longer to hit the streaming service. The 2022 box office hit “Top Gun: Maverick” dropped on Paramount Plus seven months after premiering in theaters, and December’s Oscar-nominated film “Babylon” began streaming 60 days after it hit theaters. If “Scream 6” is successful at the box office, it could remain exclusively in theaters for more than 45 days.
Some Paramount movies, including “Babylon,” have also hit VOD platforms before arriving on Paramount Plus. “Babylon” became available to order through digital retailers like Amazon and Vudu about 39 days after releasing in theaters. If “Scream 6” follows the same release schedule, it could become available to purchase or rent from digital retailers on April 18.
Why is Sidney Prescott not in ‘Scream 6’?
“Scream 6” is the first movie in the series without the character of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) since the franchise began in 1996. The character was the primary target of most Ghostface massacres, and returned in “Scream” (2022) to help the new generation of survivors. However, Campbell announced she would not appear in “Scream 6.”
Campbell confirmed that she rejected the opportunity to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in “Scream 6” because the offer didn’t reflect her worth to the franchise. The actress remarked that she turned down the role due to feeling “undervalued,” elaborating that she believes she would have been paid more if she were a male actor leading a blockbuster film series.

Early reviews for “Scream 6” have been positive. As of March 10, the horror flick has a “78% Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 152 reviews. Though some critics think the franchise’s antics are getting old, most praise the film for its creative thrills and fun scares.
Based on the positive critical reaction, “Scream 6” looks like it’s well worth a watch for fans of the franchise and slasher flicks in general.
