A trainee doctor who also worked as a model has died after consuming an immunostimulating agent based on human placenta, Russia’s law enforcement authorities say.
An investigation is underway into the tragic death of a fifth-year medical student, 22-year-old Anna Kolyada, who self-administered Japanese medicine using a drip.
She died in hospital after developing a fever on her way to the airport to fly to Dubai.
Kolyada – who called herself a “health coach” online – suffered from fluid buildup in the lungs, septic shock, heart failure and blood poisoning.
Reports say she died ten days after being admitted to the hospital.

Kolyada, a fifth-year medical student at the prestigious Sechenov Medical University in Moscow, had an affair with businessman Dmitry Zhulin, who was hospitalized but is now recovering.

Businessman Dmitry Zhulin, 33, a friend she had given treatment to, was also injured and hospitalized but is now recovering.
The Investigative Committee of Russia said that a criminal case had been opened in Kolyada’s death.
Reports say that she bought Laennec’s Japanese remedy in an online pharmacy without a prescription and prepared a drip for herself and Zhulin without contacting a qualified doctor.
It is suspected that the drug had been in the saline solution for several days and “an infection had formed in it due to the coagulated protein”.
It was reported that the couple wanted to strengthen their immune systems.
Dmitry Zhulin, 33, founder of the online store SberMarket, became seriously ill after using a Japanese placenta-based immunostimulating agent.
They have previously taken medication without problems.
Zhulin is the founder of a large Russian online store called Sbermarket.
Kolyada was a student at the prestigious Sechenov Medical University in Moscow.
Investigators have been reported to screen ampoules with an immunostimulating agent based on human placenta.
One supplier described Laennec as ‘a unique immune stimulating agent. It is obtained from the decomposition of the placenta…
