LANCASTER, Calif. – A high-speed chase in the Antelope Valley involving a stolen California Highway Patrol (CHP) cruiser has ended tragically. The suspect, who reportedly suffered from mental health issues, stole the vehicle after a collision in the Santa Clarita area. At one point during the chase, the suspect displayed a shotgun and an assault rifle. Despite officers attempting to use a spike strip to stop the vehicle, the suspect continued to flee.
The pursuit eventually ended on the 138 Freeway when the suspect leapt from the moving vehicle while it was traveling around 45 mph. The impact caused the suspect to hit his head on the roadway, rendering him unconscious. Officers immediately called for medical attention and began performing CPR.
Despite their efforts, the suspect did not survive and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, TMZ reported.
