Inter Miami chairman Jorge Mas has confirmed that he and co-owner David Beckham want to bring Lionel Messi to the club and are “very optimistic” that a deal could be struck in the future.
Messi is entering his second season with Paris Saint-Germain, where he had a somewhat disappointing debut season.
He has just turned 35, but Mas still believes he is the best player in the world and hopes one day to convince him to join.

When asked if he would bring Messi to the club, Mas said: “Look, both David Beckham and I strive to bring the best players in the world here to Miami, not just because of the project we are creating.
“We want to be the reference point for football in the United States, but when you talk about the best players in the world, Leo is obviously the best player in the world.
Hopefully the conditions will be met for him to play there wearing the United States Inter Miami shirt. That’s what we strive for.

‘I hope the circumstances have been given. We have not guaranteed anything, there is no agreement, but I am a very optimistic man and I hope that Leo Messi can be part of our project in the future.”
He added: “There are many Catalans here: there is Xavi Asensi, Víctor Oliver, who has just arrived here from Barcelona to bring up topics for the future.
“We’re going to build a new stadium… I was with Laporta for a long time last night. And nothing, it is an honor to see clubs of the Barcelona category here and it is my ambition that Inter Miami maintain close ties with these types of clubs.’
