Gwyneth Paltrow has won her case against retired ophthalmologist Terry Sanderson who claims she caused a 2016 skiing collision that left him with permanent brain damage.
Jurors found Sanderson, 76, responsible for the crash of the luxury ski resort in Utah seven years ago. It took just two hours and 20 minutes for the jury to reach its verdict on Thursday.
Paltrow’s expression softened and she looked at her attorney with a faint smile as the judge read the verdict in a Park City courtroom.
As she left, the actress leaned briefly on Sanderson’s shoulder and whispered something in his ear.
The decision comes after eight days of live broadcasts of courtroom testimony that drew audiences around the world and became a pop culture fixation.

The actress smiled and waved to the paparazzi as she made her way out of court but refused to comment.
Meanwhile, a deflated Sanderson told reporters that Paltrow spoke to him and wished me well before she left the court.
He also said he stands by his version of events, despite losing the case.
When asked what he plans to do next, he jokes, “Maybe Disneyland!”
Sanderson’s attorney, Christine Van Orman, said outside the court that she was not surprised by Paltrow and added, “I’ve been an attorney for 30 years and jurors have never surprised me.”
Of Sanderson, she added, “He’s suffering, he’s a very nice guy.”
Sanderson was skiing with a friend. Paltrow was on a family vacation with her and boyfriend Brad Falchuk’s kids. Falchuk and Paltrow married in September 2018.
Sanderson filed for damages in January 2019 – initially seeking $3.1 million. The judge reduced the amount to $300,000 in damages for the injuries he sustained.
Paltrow then filed a counterclaim asking for a symbolic $1 and her legal expenses.
Sanderson’s attorneys had tried to portray their client as an energetic, energetic person before the accident, but was dramatically changed afterward.
He claims she struck him in the back with such force that she was left with “permanent traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and disfigurement.”
Sanderson told the court: ‘I just remember everything was great and then I heard something I’d never heard at a ski resort, and that was blood-curdling screaming.
And then, Boom, it was like somebody was out of control and was going to crash into a tree and die. That’s what (I remembered) until I got hit.
He added, “I was hit in the back very hard… directly on the shoulder, and the fist and stick were at the bottom of my shoulder blade, a serious, serious slap.” “You’ve never been hurt this hard before.”

Paltrow, 50, who is being sued by Sanderson, made a series of expressions during closing arguments for Sanderson’s attorneys.
In his complaint, Sanderson said Paltrow “got up, turned and drove away” without calling for help, leaving him “stunned, lying in the snow, badly injured.”
Paltrow and her team said their ski instructor was at the scene and helped Sanderson.
Paltrow’s team argued that Sanderson’s regression, while deeply distressed, was not related to the accident and indicated prior medical issues.
They also confirmed that Sanderson’s daughter Jenny said she had a troubled relationship with her father for many years.
They repeatedly pointed out that Sanderson emailed his daughters saying, “I’m famous.”
