BBC mega comedy series is AXED after five series – cancellation of BAFTA-nominated show leaves fans devastated

A massive series has been canceled on the BBC, which is sure to leave fans in a shambles.
The broadcaster confirmed the filming on the channel Series five of Ghosts Forever wrapped on Friday, after it was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Comedy.
Having first aired in 2019, Ghosts follows a young cash-strapped couple who inherit a run-down country mansion, only to find it teeming with needy ghosts.
The team behind the stellar show claimed it was time to say goodbye to the residents of the Button House and focus on new projects.
They said: After five incredible years haunting the halls of the Button House, we decided it was time to let the ghosts of our beloved sitcom rest in peace.
We just finished shooting our fifth and final series and can’t wait to share it with you all later this year.

We could never have imagined the reception the show had, or the fun we had, and we would like to thank the amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support.

John Petrie, the BBC’s director of comedy, said: ‘We are officially mourning the end of this classic BBC sitcom. We can’t thank the Ghosts team enough for five amazing series (not to mention some perfect Christmas specials) and we can’t wait for BBC viewers to see the series finale. We look forward to working with the team on new projects.
Monumental Creative Director Alison Carpenter added, “We are very proud of Ghosts, particularly the way audiences have taken them to heart.
We couldn’t be more grateful for the creativity, talent and hard work that every cast and crew member put into on the five series, starting with the show’s incredible creators and stars.
The ghost family is very happy and we will miss them.
Ghosts stars writers and creators Matthew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Lawrence Rickard and Ben Wilpon, with Lolly Adivo, Charlotte Ritchie and Kel Smith-Binoy.
In the upcoming fifth series, Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kel Smith-Peanu) begin to explore other means of making ends meet and contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge impact on the ghosts’ lives (yet).
The fourth series launches in Autumn 2022, and has been nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Comedy.
It was the biggest comedy series of the year in terms of audiences on telecast with 5.7 million viewers watching the first episode.
