A Chicago serial criminal known as a prison eater is back in jail for stealing a Google engineer’s Maserati while the victim was doing yoga.
Lamont Cathy, 25, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary, aiding or abetting possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and two counts of identity theft.
During one of his crimes, Cathy, who has committed 13 felonies, stole a Google engineer’s expensive luxury car from a yoga studio parking lot after breaking into the man’s locker and stealing keys in 2021.
When the engineer returned to his locker after the exercise, he noticed that his keys, wallet, and phone were missing and that his car was no longer in the parking lot. Surveillance footage captured Cathy leaving in a Maserati, where he drove toward a Target store to spend $2,399 on two iPads using the victim’s credit cards.

Kathy made a name for himself in the Cook County Jail for swallowing metal objects, including nails and screws, and racked up $2 million in medical bills.
A few days later, he broke into another locker at a different yoga studio and stole $100 from a different man, as well as a phone and credit cards. He used the guy’s cards to buy $2,400 worth of items at Best Buy and $1,100 at Target, according to CWB Chicago.
The outlet reports that Kathy failed to show up for his bail hearing because he was in the hospital receiving treatment for “foreign object ingestion.”
During his many stints behind bars, Cathy was reported to have cost taxpayers at least $2 million in medical bills by eating bits of utilities.
By 2016, the career criminal had performed more than 20 surgeries related to the ingestion of metal, including screws and nails.
Kathy began swallowing metal objects after a failed plea deal that was supposed to allow him to attend boot camp in 2014. He ate a thumbtack, strips of leather, and even parts of a medical device he disassembled while in prison.

“It’s literally jail eating,” Kara Smith, executive director of Cook County Jail, said at the time. It was a very sad and frustrating situation.
Prior to his imprisonment, Cathy was enrolled in an alternative high school, where basketball coaches called the 6-foot-8 “Big Boy” Cathy and he showed no signs of depression.
His lawyers and his mother said at the time that he was in dire need of psychiatric treatment.
Cathy had problems in his teenage years. He was arrested more than a dozen times as a juvenile, although none of these arrests resulted in his conviction.
Cathey will be eligible for parole on May 14, 2024.
